Owls leading scorer Markeith Cummings was not present during the team’s overtime loss to Lipscomb on Thursday night. According to the ESPN3.com webcast, Cummings did not travel with the squad and will not play Saturday against Northern Kentucky.
It has been known for some time that Cummings hasn’t always seen eye to eye with the coaching staff/teammates, and the frustration may have finally hit the breaking point. It seems like Cummings is not playing the way the coaches want him to on both ends of the floor, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he has started (and maybe played) his last game for the Black and Gold. Cummings’ isolation on offense tends to be great in spurts but it eventually bogs down what the team is trying to accomplish in terms of ball movement/distribution and on the defensive end, he often looks lost. If he can come back, make amends, shows the drive and determination that he did earlier this year against Mercer, then he will be a huge asset.
I find it disappointing that his final year at KSU might end on a sour note. He has been the most electrifying player in the Atlantic Sun Conference since his season debut four years ago, and it would be a shame if this situation can’t be resolved. With that being said, the team might just be better without him, if he doesn’t fully buy in.
Cummings has netted 1,921 points and is 9th all-time in Atlantic Sun Conference scoring.

It is a shame …that a coach will lye on or put his mouth on a player to make him or her to look bad or coachable……That’s a Damn shame……..and will lye to his or her parents……To get the player come and play for Him…………….
God has the last say so…………..Not a coach………a coach really needs to be careful,,,when he or she has kids of their on ,coming up in this world…….Because you want your KIDS to be Blessed
